Illustrator artist David Zamudio
is the creative talent of Zamudios Art Studio.
As a toddler growing up in Pagedale, Missouri
he had a curiosity for pencils, crayons and various writing instruments. Zamudio began drawing on paper, notebooks, book jackets, walls and any surface nearby available for drawing.
In grade school and junior high art class becomes his natural interest. He practices sketching autos, motorcycles, military vehicles, weapons, soldiers and western scenes regularly impressing his family and friends.
As a highschool student Zamudio entered an art contest sponsored by the local fire department.
He wins the blue ribbon for first place and
also earns second place for the same drawing! Zamudio considers this event as
the most meaningful recognition of his work
to date. He insists that he never actually considered winning the contest-the thought never occured to him. David was just happy
to be drawing something.
As a graduate of The Graphique Art Institute of St.Louis, Missouri he earned a certificate in Commercial Art in 1978. He pursued technical illustration and design studies at the Saint Louis Community College. Zamudio worked as a technical illustrator for private studios and for military contractors.
David continued to develop his interest in drawing as a fulltime student at Washington University in St. Louis. Accepted to the school of fine arts at Washington University he studied illustration, sculpture and design.
As a student he entered a local drawing competition and received an honorable mention and a certificate of excellence from the National Arts and Letters Society for one of his portraits.
Zamudio continues his illustration career as a freelance cartoonist and illustrator. His cartoons and illustration work have been published in St. Louis Post Dispatch, Suburban Journals of St. Louis, Savvy Family magazine of St. Louis, St. Louis Fax Times and other publications.
